Invent characters with a big personality.

Why do some characters feel memorable the instant you see them? In this four-week studio, students invent original characters through playful design challenges. They explore shape language, personality, expressions, costumes, props, and color without moving into the more technical anatomy and production-design expectations of the teen pathway. The goal is creative confidence: making choices on purpose and discovering how visual details can tell us who a character is.

What Students will Learn:

Shape language; silhouette; personality; expressions; costume ideas; props; color palettes; visual storytelling; choosing and refining ideas.

4-Week Project Arc:

Week 1: Generate character ideas with shape and silhouette games.
Week 2: Explore personality through poses and expressions.
Week 3: Add costumes, props, and color that tell us about the character.
Week 4: Refine and present an original character sheet.

Final Project:

Original character sheet with poses, expressions, costume/prop details, and color.

Recommended Student / Fit:

Ages 8–12 who love inventing OCs, comic characters, game characters, or creatures.

Outcome:

Students learn that character design is about making creative choices, not drawing perfectly — and finish with an original character they can keep developing.
